Professor Catherine Itsiopoulos is the Executive Dean of Health and Biomedical Sciences in the STEM College and the Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor and Head of the Bundoora Health Precinct at RMIT University in Melbourne. Catherine’s previous academic leadership roles include Pro Vice Chancellor of the College of Science, Health, Engineering and Education at Murdoch University, and she has held senior academic and research leadership roles at the La Trobe University, University of Canberra, Deakin University, RMIT University and the University of Melbourne. She has also held management roles in the health services sector and has extensive food industry partner networks and international committee roles in food and health.

She is the Vice President of the Mediterranean Lifestyle Medicine Institute, a Board member of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine and the Chair of the Education Task force for the World Lifestyle Medicine Organisation.

A recognised leader in Dietetics and Human Nutrition with international standing in Mediterranean diet research. Her research expertise focuses on the therapeutic potential of a traditional Mediterranean diet on prevention and management of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, fatty liver, depression, dementia and childhood asthma. Catherine is widely published having authored more than 150 peer reviewed papers with about 7500 citations, has been awarded in excess of $10M in competitive grants, and has published four books on the Mediterranean which are used across Australia in clinic trials.
